Bus services at YVR are provided using accessible vehicles. All drivers have received the necessary training to comply with the Accessible Transportation for Persons with Disabilities Regulations.
We have accessible highway coaches in the event accessible transportation is requested on our Whistler scheduled service and private group charters. Drivers assigned to these requests have been provided the necessary training to comply with the Accessible Transportation for Persons with Disabilities Regulations.
Having just completed the management, scheduling and provision of the bus services for the 2025 Invictus Games, wherein UCL provided transportation to in excess of sixty-seven persons using mobility aids, the organization has proven itself to be a most competent provider of transportation to persons with disabilities in extremely difficult and stressful conditions.
Consultations:
UCL conducts regular consultations with its Occupational Health & Safety Committee to ensure any barriers in the workplace are eliminated whenever possible.
In 2022, Universal Coach Line Ltd. (UCL) partnered with the Richmond Centre for Disability (RCD) to create a robust Disability Awareness & Sensitivity Training Program not only for our employees but to include a Train the Trainer Certification Program.
With this consultation in person and online and using the tools provided by RCD, we created an online training program that covers the necessary elements for the Disability Awareness & Sensitivity Training.
To date, we have trained drivers not only using the Disability Awareness & Sensitivity program, but also using videos and printed documents from our bus manufacturer regarding wheelchair lift procedures and wheelchair tiedown processes.
Regarding barriers in accessing our services, the training program created with RCD’s assistance covers a good portion of those barriers, however, we will need to assess where barriers may exist that need our attention. We can use our management of the transportation of the Invictus Games as a prime assessment platform to identify barriers.
Training:
All employees have access to our online tablet app Disability & Sensitivity Training Program. They can access it on their cell phone, tablet or personal computer at any time keeping them fresh and current with the training.
Feedback:
The link to our Accessibility Feedback platform is below.
Persons who experience a barrier on their own behalf or on another person’s behalf can submit their feedback which will be reviewed promptly, recorded and initiate a process for creating a corrective action plan.
All such occurrences shall be compiled on file for review by compliance staff, regulatory agencies and/or accreditation survey teams.
